Geke Schalkwijk at DOEN in Rotterdam

DOEN in Rotterdam presented STUFF STUFF STUFF, a solo exhibition by Dutch artist Geke Schalkwijk, whose work explores the relationship between everyday objects, memory and contemporary culture. Through subtle interventions and carefully reworked familiar forms, the exhibition invited visitors to reconsider the habits, symbols and rituals that shape daily life.

For the exhibition, the gallery was painted in ST SC 04 Seiji by Stefan Scholten. Inspired by the traditional Japanese celadon glaze, the soft light blue establishes a calm architectural setting that allows artworks, objects and natural light to remain the primary focus. Rather than functioning as a neutral white gallery, the colour introduces atmosphere while preserving the clarity required for exhibiting contemporary art.

Applied across walls and exhibition architecture, ST SC 04 Seiji demonstrates how carefully considered colour can influence the experience of an exhibition without competing with the works themselves. The restrained palette creates subtle depth throughout the space, reinforcing the dialogue between architecture, material and art.

The project illustrates how Blēo's architectural colours can be used within galleries and cultural institutions, where colour becomes part of the curatorial experience rather than simply a backdrop.
