Geke Schalkwijk at DOEN in Rotterdam
DOEN in Rotterdam is hosting a solo exhibition, STUFF STUFF STUFF, by artist Geke Schalkwijk, a contemporary artist from Rotterdam whose work explores the tension between human instincts and a rapidly evolving world. Drawing on familiar objects, symbols and archetypes of contemporary Western culture, Schalkwijk alters and repositions them in subtle yet disorienting ways. Through these transformations, the ordinary becomes slightly strange, revealing the habits, norms and values that quietly shape modern life.
For the exhibition, the space is painted in ST SC 04 Seiji by Stefan Scholten, a fresh and subtle light blue. Named after a traditional glaze from the Nagasaki region in Japan, Seiji carries a calm, balanced presence that works equally well on walls, furniture and objects. The colour forms a quiet backdrop for the works, supporting the exhibition’s exploration of the everyday and the familiar.
