An Ode to Griegst: A legacy of fluid form, now reimagined in interior colour

Blēo unveils eleven evocative hues and a spectral gold, drawn from the depths of Griegst’s archives — creating a new material language through which to experience the visionary world of Arje Griegst. This extraordinary collaboration brings Arje Griegst’s legacy into the realm of interior design, drawing directly from his 1975 collection of porcelain jewelry and objects created for Royal Copenhagen.

Inside the Transition palette: Griegst’s vision of colour in collaboration with Blēo

Blēo unveils eleven evocative hues and a spectral gold, drawn from the depths of Griegst’s archives — creating a new material language through which to experience the visionary world of Arje Griegst.

The Transition palette is a study in both history and innovation. Each shade is a contemporary interpretation of the colours Arje Griegst meticulously crafted over four years to match the playfulness and nuance of his porcelain pieces. Inspired by the intricate Celadon glazes of his work, these new colours embody the soft porousness of porcelain while echoing the unique textures and tonal depth of Griegst’s iconic designs.

In addition to Griegst’s celebrated collection of candlesticks, trays, glass vases, and sterling silver cutlery, Transition strengthens the house’s presence in interior design, offering an evocative, transformative experience. These paints amplify the expansive world Arje Griegst created — a world where nature, figures, dreams, and the cosmos coalesce in perpetual motion.

Working closely with Blēo’s team, Griegst’s family — Noam Griegst and Amalie Adrian — have distilled the essence of Noam’ father’s legacy into a tangible, vibrant language. Pale aquas evoke the mythical mermen of his pendants, dusty pinks recall the delicate features of a woman’s face behind rose petals, and deep forest greens channel the mischievous spirit of an oak man. These colours are a tribute to Griegst’s ability to merge the natural world with the fantastical, imbuing every space they touch with a sense of enchanted fluidity and preciousness.

From translucent bone to deep burgundy browns, the paints offer a rich, eco-friendly formula and are available in up to eight finishes — from a lustrous, china-like gloss to an ultra-matte, capturing the delicate texture of the porcelain before it is glazed.

“These colours were painstakingly developed by my father, just as he carved out his own visual language and innovative techniques. Looking closely, we realized the layers of hues within each shade. Replicating this complexity has been an inspiring process,” shares Noam Griegst, Creative Director. "The palette unfolds as a dynamic universe of colour, where echoes of the past meet the intuitions of the present", Noam Griegst adds.

The collaboration with Griegst celebrates not only the rich heritage of the brand, but also the shared spirit of experimentation, ingenuity and creative dialogue that Blēo and Griegst share; a commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and creating new possibilities in collaboration — new ways of working together — where tradition becomes a foundation for innovation.

“Our collaboration with Blēo feels like an essential part of the cosmic loop of Griegst’s legacy,” reflects Noam Griegst. “These paints are an organic extension of the universe my father built, deepening the connection to home and personal space. He understood the transformative power of interior color — once, he mixed four colours for a Baroque-inspired wall that captured the essence of an enchanted oak tree, much like the mystical backdrop in Heiberg’s Elves’ Hill.”

Transition is not just a palette of colours — it’s a living, breathing extension of Griegst’s vision, offering a new way to experience and inhabit the world he built.

Transition

The Transition Palette translates 12 shades of porcelain and luminous gold — drawn from Arje Griegst’s iconic 1975 jewellery collection for Royal Copenhagen — into fluid, contemporary colour. These tones echo the delicate nuance and quiet depth of Celadon glazes once hand mixed by Griegst himself. Together, they form a precious, time-travelling spectrum: at once ancient and immediate, refined yet instinctive — an homage to the past, reimagined through a modern lens.

This is not colour as surface, but colour as substance. Each tone holds the quiet complexity of time and touch — tones that feel simultaneously unearthed and invented. Together, they form a precious palette: intuitive, refined, and otherworldly. Applied across materials, the palette activates space with a sense of transformation — bridging past and present, the ornamental and the architectural. It’s an invitation to see colour not as backdrop, but as experience — sensory, emotional, and alive.
