Tiles by Yvonne Koné
— contemporary precision with a subtle vintage tone

Extending her Safe Place palette into glazed and raw terracotta, Yvonne Koné brings her colours into clay through glaze and fire. Developed in close collaboration with a third-generation, family-owned ceramic workshop in Italy, the collection treats colour as part of the material itself, sitting within the terracotta rather than on top of it. The result feels warm and physical. Made to hold a space rather than define it, the tones bring calm and balance. They add warmth and depth without dominating the architecture, so light and proportion stay in focus.

Eighteen hues form Tiles by Yvonne Koné. Fourteen originate from Koné’s original Safe Place palette and are adapted to terracotta, where clay and glaze create slight variation in tone and depth. Three additional colours were developed specifically for the tile collection, alongside one unglazed terracotta left in its raw fired state. The palette moves between warm neutrals, softened pastels and deeper tones. Some sit close to neutral, while others add contrast. The colours are made to complement each other and work well tone on tone on walls, floors and built surfaces. The collection is suited for residential, retail and hospitality spaces, including bathrooms and selected exterior applications.

Produced in Italy, the tiles are shaped through a traditional double firing process. This method allows the glaze to develop gradually, bringing depth and a soft sheen while maintaining the warmth of the terracotta underneath. Natural variations in tone and reflection occur during firing, giving each tile slight differences while maintaining overall consistency. The glossy surface has an almost lacquered quality while still clearly ceramic. Each format is refined by hand before moulds are made, ensuring accuracy while retaining the character of the material. The process combines hand refinement with consistent production.

Made for everyday interiors, the glazed terracotta surface is durable while retaining the warmth of the material. The glaze resists staining and wear, and the colour remains consistent over time. The terracotta remains naturally porous and will change slightly with use. The result is a surface that is both practical and warm, adding tactility to any space. The collection is made to support a space rather than dominate it. Warmth and softness allow architecture, light and daily life to stay in focus. The tiles can be used in smaller areas or across an entire interior, in both contemporary and classical spaces.
