Tiles by Formafantasma
— hand-brushed, tactile surfaces in Italian clay

Tiles by Formafantasma are handmade in Southern Italy using carefully selected Italian clay. Produced by a second-generation tile workshop, the collection brings together traditional craft, material research and a precise approach to colour and surface. Rooted in the visual language of everyday Italian spaces, from Rome and Milan to Naples and Palermo, the collection draws on the tiled counters, floors and walls, chalky painted surfaces, dark lacquered wood, stone and aged interiors found in neighbourhood bottegas across Italy.

The colours are taken from these familiar spaces, where materials gather depth through use, time and atmosphere. Translated into clay, glaze and handpainted surfaces, they create a tile collection that feels both contemporary and deeply connected to Italian daily life.

The tiles are developed for indoor walls and floors, and are available in four sizes and four finishes: SMOOTH GLOSSY, SMOOTH MATTE, BRUSHED GLOSSY and BRUSHED MATTE. The collection can be used in calm, continuous layouts or combined across formats, finishes and colours for more expressive architectural surfaces. Each tile is shaped, finished and fired by hand. Variations in tone, edge, surface and glaze are retained rather than corrected, allowing repetition to carry subtle shifts across a wall or floor. These differences define the material expression of the collection.

The SMOOTH finishes have a classic, even surface and are available in both SMOOTH GLOSSY and SMOOTH MATTE, offering a refined and more traditional tile expression. Quiet and balanced, they bring clarity to the colours and create a calm, continuous surface across walls and floors. The BRUSHED finishes are more tactile and expressive. Available in BRUSHED GLOSSY and BRUSHED MATTE, each tile is finished with visible handpainted brushstrokes that can be both seen and felt. The glossy version enhances the texture with light and reflection, while the matte version appears quieter, drier and more mineral.

The collection is designed for indoor walls, floors and architectural surfaces in residential, hospitality and commercial interiors. Used in single colours or combined across the palette, the tiles create surfaces where colour, clay, glaze and handwork remain visibly connected. The colour palette is developed in close relation to Formafantasma’s paint colours for Blēo, connecting paint and tile through the same point of reference and allowing walls, floors and architectural details to form one material language.
