At the Threshold of Rest
Presented during 3daysofdesign 2025, At the Threshold of Rest was a site-specific installation by RYE, transforming a working parking garage in central Copenhagen into a series of quiet interiors dedicated to sleep, rest and contemplation.
Founded in Copenhagen, RYE creates handmade beds, mattresses and bedding with a focus on natural materials, craftsmanship and longevity. For this temporary exhibition, furniture, artworks, objects and found elements were carefully arranged throughout a sequence of interconnected rooms, creating an immersive environment that contrasted the raw industrial setting with a calm and domestic atmosphere.
Blēo colours were used throughout the installation on both walls and ceilings, bringing together a palette developed by some of the world's leading architects and designers. Essential 25 Pale Air, FO FA 14 Warm White by Formafantasma, BU ST 08 Yard Wheat by Bunn Studio, and NO AR 01 Fading Forest Green by Norm Architects were applied in ULTRA MATTE, while JO PA 11 Cashmere by John Pawson was finished in MINERALS, introducing subtle depth and texture to selected surfaces.
Rather than defining individual rooms, the colours established a continuous architectural rhythm, allowing light, proportion and texture to shape the experience of the exhibition. The restrained palette reinforced the installation's exploration of rest, demonstrating how carefully considered colour can contribute to spaces that feel quiet, immersive and deeply connected to their surroundings.
The exhibition was conceived and curated by Kasia Sznajder, with exhibition and lighting design by Joanna Filipowska and Studio 0405.
