The Dinesen Apartment by John Pawson in Copenhagen

Designed by John Pawson, the Dinesen Apartment in Copenhagen explores the relationship between architecture, timber and light through a series of carefully composed interiors. Created as the first spatial collaboration between Dinesen and the British architect, the apartment embodies Pawson's enduring commitment to simplicity, proportion and craftsmanship.

Throughout the apartment, JO PA 04 Cotton by John Pawson has been applied across walls, ceilings and architectural surfaces, creating a calm and continuous backdrop for the rich character of Dinesen's Douglas fir. Rather than presenting colour as contrast, Cotton reinforces the material qualities of the timber, allowing daylight, texture and proportion to define the experience of each room.

Furniture, artworks and carefully selected objects are placed with the same restrained approach that characterises Pawson's architecture. Every element contributes to an interior where material, light and colour exist in careful balance, creating spaces that feel quiet, tactile and enduring.

The project demonstrates how a single architectural colour can unify an entire interior, allowing craftsmanship and materiality to remain at the centre of the spatial experience.
