Norm Architects’ Studio in Copenhagen
Set within a courtyard in Copenhagen’s historic Frederiksstaden, Norm Architects’ new studio occupies a freestanding industrial building from the 1930s, set back from Amaliegade and surrounded by the older city.
The transformation takes its starting point in the existing architecture. Structural steel, vaulted ceilings, generous proportions and traces of the building’s industrial past have been retained, while a restrained palette of materials introduces warmth and tactility.
The studio is painted in NO AR 20 Pale Beach, developed by Norm Architects for Blēo. Applied in both ULTRA MATTE and MINERALS, the colour extends across walls, ceilings, metal and woodwork, creating continuity between the building’s different surfaces and spaces.
Pale Beach is a very light, neutral beige with a soft warmth. Its understated character allows the original architecture, natural materials and furnishings to remain clearly legible, while the different finishes introduce subtle variations in surface and light.
Conceived as a place for work, making and gathering rather than a conventional office or showroom, the studio reflects Norm Architects’ approach to architecture as a material and sensory experience. The use of a single colour across the interior establishes a coherent backdrop for the objects, materials and daily life of the studio.
