Tiny Church, Nordhavn in Denmark

Tiny Church, Nordhavn in Denmark

Tiny Church is a timber chapel in Nordhavn, Copenhagen, designed by architect Julius Nielsen as a space for worship and community gatherings. The dodecagonal structure is defined by twelve timber walls, referencing the twelve apostles, with daylight entering through a central oculus.

The interior combines exposed wood and a restrained material palette with selected uses of colour. In the kitchen and bathroom, CE BA 11 Joerge Silver by Cecilie Bahnsen for Blēo introduces a reflective metallic surface within the otherwise timber interior.

On the inner walls, IN FA 06 Corten by Industrial Facility for Blēo adds a deep rust-brown tone. The colour relates to the industrial architecture and steel structures of Copenhagen's Nordhavn harbour area, connecting the interior palette with its immediate surroundings.

Throughout Tiny Church, colour is treated as part of the material composition of the architecture, used selectively alongside timber, natural light and the building's geometric structure.
