David Chipperfield

David Chipperfield was born in London in 1953 and founded David Chipperfield Architects in 1985. Developing a design methodology that is now used across five offices in London, Berlin, Milan, Shanghai and Santiago de Compostela, he champions minimal, anti-rhetorical architecture with simple volumes and painstaking focus on the innate design language of materials. In addition to design work, the architect has taught and lectured worldwide. Among many achievements, he curated the 13th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2012, and was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2023.
