A family home near Copenhagen

In a 19th-century country house just outside Copenhagen, original timber, soft colour and contemporary interventions come together in an interior that feels both personal and connected to the history of the building. Rather than concealing the traces of the original house, the renovation allows old beams and exposed construction to remain visible alongside newly painted surfaces.

In the entrance, ST SC 03 Local by Stefan Scholten covers the walls in a soft off-blue with a hint of green, while the woodwork is painted in MU SE 08 Vanilla by Muller Van Severen. The combination brings a gentle contrast to the exposed timber and natural wooden floors, shifting subtly with the daylight throughout the day.

Colour continues into the kitchen, where handmade MU SE 11 Dark Blue tiles by Muller Van Severen form a compact backsplash against the otherwise restrained interior. Their deep blue glaze and subtle variations in surface bring depth and tactility to the room, creating a concentrated moment of colour against stainless steel and dark wood.

Across the house, colour is used selectively rather than uniformly, responding to the architecture and function of each room. Soft painted surfaces, saturated glazed tiles and the existing character of the building come together in a home that feels evolved over time rather than newly designed.
