Just Kids Exhibition at Gammel Strand, Copenhagen
Presented at Gammel Strand in Copenhagen, Just Kids explored childhood, creativity and artistic identity through works by leading Danish and international contemporary artists. Bringing together painting, sculpture, installation and moving image, the exhibition reflected on how our understanding of childhood has evolved across generations.
For the exhibition, walls throughout Gammel Strand were painted using colours from the Main Collection by Cecilie Bahnsen, developed for Blēo. Curated in close collaboration between Gammel Strand and Blēo, the palette created a calm architectural framework that supported the artworks while allowing each gallery to establish its own atmosphere.
Rather than functioning as a neutral backdrop, the carefully composed colours became part of the exhibition experience, responding to daylight, artworks and the changing sequence of rooms. The restrained palette reinforced the exhibition's exploration of perception, memory and creativity while maintaining a strong connection to the historic architecture of Gammel Strand.
The project demonstrates how architectural colour can contribute to exhibition design, creating spaces where art, light and material exist in quiet dialogue.
