Apartment in Marseille, France

Apartment in Marseille, France

In Marseille, France, a private apartment designed by architect Hugo Dupond is shaped by a single continuous colour. JO PA 05 Flour by John Pawson for Blēo extends across walls and ceilings in ULTRA MATTE, creating a unified architectural surface that responds to the strong natural light of southern France.

Developed as part of John Pawson’s Whitescale collection for Blēo, JO PA 05 Flour is a warm, nuanced white with a subtle mineral character. In Marseille’s bright Mediterranean light, the colour retains its softness, bringing warmth and clarity to the interior without appearing stark or overly cool.

Rather than using colour to distinguish individual surfaces or rooms, Hugo Dupond allows Flour to move continuously through the apartment. Walls and ceilings become part of the same tonal volume, softening transitions and allowing proportion, daylight and architectural details to define the spaces.

The restrained use of a single colour demonstrates how a nuanced architectural white can transform an entire interior. As daylight changes throughout the day, JO PA 05 Flour shifts subtly in tone, creating an apartment defined by light, continuity and material restraint.
