Raw Lava Stone

Natural volcanic stone from the slopes of Mount Etna.

Raw Lava Stone forms part of Blēo Essentials, our growing collection of architectural materials selected for their longevity and enduring quality. Extracted from the volcanic landscape surrounding Mount Etna in Sicily and processed by a second-generation family workshop in southern Italy, the collection combines the geological character of volcanic basalt with generations of Italian craftsmanship.

Raw Lava Stone originates from Mount Etna in Sicily, where volcanic basalt has formed over thousands of years. Like other natural stones, it is quarried in large blocks before being cut into slabs and tiles. Each piece has its own mineral composition, markings and colour variation. These differences are a natural characteristic of the stone and ensure that no two tiles are exactly alike.

Volcanic basalt is one of the most durable natural stones used in architecture. Its dense structure makes it highly resistant to wear, moisture and temperature changes, making it suitable for demanding residential, commercial and hospitality environments. Available in Light Raw Lava and Dark Raw Lava, the collection offers two natural expressions. Light Raw Lava has a lighter soft grey appearance, while Dark Raw Lava reveals a deeper grey tone with naturally occurring mineral markings and speckles. Together they provide a versatile material that pairs naturally with wood, steel, paint, glazed ceramics and other architectural surfaces.

Every tile is processed by a second-generation family workshop in southern Italy, where traditional stone craftsmanship is combined with contemporary production techniques. Before leaving the workshop, the stone is impregnated and waxed to improve its resistance to water, stains and everyday use while preserving its natural appearance. With proper care, the surface develops a natural patina over time.

Raw Lava Stone can be used across a wide range of interior and architectural applications, including floors, walls, bathrooms, kitchens, fireplaces, worktops, vanities, basins and other built-in elements. It performs equally well as a continuous surface throughout a project or in combination with contrasting materials.

Available in Two Colours

  • Light Raw Lava Stone

A soft, light grey volcanic basalt with a balanced mineral structure and naturally occurring speckles. Its lighter tone reflects light, creating a calm and versatile surface.

  • Dark Raw Lava Stone

A deep, intense grey volcanic basalt with a denser expression and naturally occurring mineral markings. Rich in tone yet neutral in character.

As with all natural stone, correct installation and sealing are essential. Proper treatment protects the material, reduces absorption and preserves its colour and surface for many years. For further guidance, please refer to the installation, grouting and maintenance guides below.
