Studio Stefan Scholten
Stefan Scholten is a Dutch designer based in Amsterdam whose work is defined by an exceptional understanding of colour, materials and form. Working across furniture, textiles, ceramics and product design, he has developed a recognisable design language where colour is treated as an essential part of the creative process rather than a finishing detail.
About
After graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 1995, Stefan Scholten established himself as one of the leading figures in contemporary Dutch design. Throughout his career he has collaborated with internationally recognised companies including Maharam, Cappellini, 1616 / Arita Japan, HAY, Georg Jensen and Established & Sons, creating furniture, textiles, ceramics and objects distinguished by their clarity, craftsmanship and highly refined colour compositions.
Colour lies at the heart of Scholten's practice. Rather than selecting colours late in the design process, he develops them alongside form, material and proportion through an iterative studio practice of sketching, model-making and hand-mixing pigments. This atelier-based approach allows colour to become an integral part of the object itself, resulting in work that feels both expressive and remarkably balanced.
Although his designs are often characterised by geometric simplicity and functional clarity, they are never anonymous. Through subtle tonal relationships, carefully composed palettes and an intuitive understanding of materials, Scholten creates objects that feel timeless while retaining a strong and unmistakable identity.
For Blēo, Stefan Scholten has developed a colour collection that reflects his lifelong fascination with pigments, colour interaction and composition. The palette translates his distinctive visual language into architectural surfaces, demonstrating how carefully balanced colours can quietly shape the atmosphere of a space.
