About
Onofrio Acone is an Italian ceramic artist and maker whose work is rooted in a lifelong relationship with clay. Raised in a family of ceramic craftsmen, he spent his childhood in the workshop founded by his parents in 1982, developing an early understanding of material, form and traditional ceramic techniques. For more than four decades, ceramics has remained at the centre of Acone’s practice. Working primarily by hand, he creates sculptural objects, vessels and architectural ceramic surfaces that explore the tactile and expressive qualities of clay. Natural variations in colour, texture and surface are retained as part of the making process, giving each piece its individual character.
Based in Southern Italy, Acone continues to work with techniques and knowledge developed across generations while approaching ceramics from a contemporary perspective. In 2022, he opened a gallery dedicated to his work, presenting unique handmade pieces alongside his ongoing exploration of material, proportion and form. For Blēo, Onofrio Acone has developed a collection of handmade ceramic tiles that brings his approach to clay into an architectural format. Produced in Italy, the collection retains the variations inherent to handmade ceramics, with subtle differences in surface, colour and form from tile to tile.
