valerie_colours — Veerle Wenes
Veerle Wenes is a Belgian curator, trained architect and art director whose work has profoundly influenced contemporary design through exhibitions, colour and creative direction. Working across galleries, design brands and cultural projects, she is recognised for bringing together art, architecture and everyday objects in unexpected and meaningful ways.
About
Trained as an architect, Veerle Wenes began working with colour in the 1980s through her creative agency SCRITTO, developing colour concepts for the furniture and textile industry. Since then, colour has remained a continuous thread throughout her practice, informing projects that span architecture, exhibitions, product design and creative direction.
In 2010, Wenes founded valerie_traan in Antwerp, a gallery dedicated to exploring the boundaries between contemporary art, architecture and design. Through exhibitions, commissions and collaborations with leading international designers and artists, the gallery has become one of Europe's most respected platforms for collectible design and experimental practice.
Building on this vision, Wenes co-founded valerie_objects in 2015 together with Serax. As art director, she has collaborated with designers including Muller Van Severen, Maarten Baas, BIG-GAME, Destroyers/Builders and Maria Scarpulla, creating collections that blur the distinction between functional objects and collectible design. In 2023, she expanded the gallery programme with valerie_troost in Ostend, further strengthening her commitment to contemporary art and design.
For Blēo, Veerle Wenes returns to one of her earliest passions: colour. Her collection reflects decades of experience working across design, architecture and art, bringing together carefully composed tones that celebrate colour as both a cultural language and an architectural medium.
