Why does a colour look different throughout the day?

Colour changes in appearance according to the light it receives. Daylight varies in intensity and temperature throughout the day, while artificial lighting can alter how individual tones are perceived. A colour may therefore appear warmer, cooler, lighter or darker depending on the conditions.
