Københavns Kunsthandel, Copenhagen
Københavns Kunsthandel specialises in Danish and international art from the 19th and 20th centuries, with a particular focus on mid-century abstraction, historical works and artist estates.
Founded by art dealer Johs Schmidt, the Copenhagen gallery presents art through exhibitions and direct sales, bringing together works across periods and established artistic categories.
In February 2025, Københavns Kunsthandel presented a sales exhibition dedicated to two Danish female modernists: Astrid Holm (1876–1937), a painter and weaver who studied under Henri Matisse, and Bizzie Høyer (1888–1971), a painter, teacher and art educator.
Colour forms part of the exhibition setting. The walls are painted in JAAF 03 Plate IV-1 and JAAF 04 Plate V-5 from the Josef Albers Color Interactions palette for Blēo. Curated for the space by August Studio together with Signe M. Jensen, the two colours create a distinct architectural backdrop for the historical works.
The Color Interactions palette translates colours from Josef Albers’ Interaction of Color into architectural paint, allowing his studies of colour relationships and perception to be experienced at the scale of an interior.
