YUN Berlin

YUN Berlin

Since 2015, YUN has been a cutting-edge Korean eyewear brand based in both Berlin and Seoul. They design timeless frames in-house with a strong focus on materiality and function. Thanks to their innovative technology, they provide a unique service: high-quality prescription glasses, ready in just 20 minutes.

Ten years after the opening of their flagship store in Mitte in Berlin, YUN can now be found at Kurfürstendamm 11 (or Ku’damm, as the locals call it), in the historic Breitscheidplatz, a landmark of Berlin. The interior design emphasizes the use of light, drawing inspiration from architect Egon Eiermann’s famous reconstructed church, whose façade is made almost entirely of stained glass. At the center of the store, a multi-sided blue mirror column pays homage to this 1960s memorial, which stands directly across from the shop. By night, the store’s cool blue tones contrast with the warmly lit display window, evoking the glow of the sun. The space is further defined by elegantly curved aluminum display tables, suspended curtains, and warm wooden surfaces that subtly designate areas for customer service.

"We work in layers. The light blue paint is a subtle statement, something a little unexpected yet neutral as it references the sky. Everything for the product is made of metal, framing the eyewear by reflecting light. And then everything in the space made of wood is related to service, to an exchange with the customer. Finally, the curtains act as filters, creating a soft separation. Like the stanchions with wire in a museum, fabricating a distinction of where visitors or customers can and cannot go", tells Pierre Pierre Jorge Gonzalez from Gonzalez Haase AAS who have designed the space.

The store spans 148 sqm, is wheelchair-accessible and accommodates up to 80 people. The space offers customers two eye-test rooms and a sink, while simultaneously displaying 180 YUN frames.
