Maintenance & Cleaning
Terracotta is a durable material that develops character over time. With correct care and maintenance, the surface will age naturally while retaining its warmth, depth and tactile qualities.
Daily cleaning
For everyday cleaning, use warm water or a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for natural terracotta. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning products that may damage the surface or affect the protective sealer. Clean spills such as coffee, wine, oil or acidic liquids as soon as possible to minimise the risk of staining.
Products to avoid
Do not use acidic cleaners, vinegar, bleach, chlorine or other aggressive chemicals. These products can permanently damage both the terracotta and the protective sealer. Avoid abrasive pads or mechanical cleaning methods that may scratch the surface.
Long-term maintenance
As a porous natural material, terracotta benefits from periodic maintenance. Depending on traffic, wear and exposure, the protective sealer should be reapplied when necessary. Over time, terracotta develops a natural patina that reflects its use and environment. This gradual ageing is an inherent characteristic of the material and contributes to its enduring architectural character.
