Industrial Facility

Industrial Facility

Industrial Facility is a London-based design studio founded by Sam Hecht and Kim Colin in 2002. Working across furniture, products, exhibitions and industrial design, the studio is recognised for its quiet, purposeful approach, creating objects that improve everyday life through clarity, restraint and lasting relevance.

About

Founded in London by Sam Hecht and Kim Colin in 2002, Industrial Facility has established itself as one of the most influential design studios working today. Collaborating with leading international manufacturers, the studio develops furniture, lighting, products and exhibitions that combine rigorous functionality with exceptional refinement.

Rather than seeking novelty, Industrial Facility focuses on improving the familiar. Every project begins by questioning how an object is used, how it performs and how it can endure over time. Through careful observation, reduction and an uncompromising attention to detail, the studio creates work that feels intuitive, timeless and quietly essential.

This philosophy has led to collaborations with companies including Muji, Herman Miller, Emeco, Wästberg, Mattiazzi and Santa & Cole, while the studio's work forms part of the permanent collections of institutions including The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London.

For Blēo, Industrial Facility extends this thoughtful approach into colour, developing a palette shaped by clarity, balance and longevity. Like the studio's products, the colours are designed not to dominate a space, but to support everyday life with quiet confidence, allowing architecture, light and materials to remain at the forefront.

London by Industrial Facility

Industrial Facility rarely see colour in isolation—it is part of something, contextual. For things in the public or urban landscape, like a road barrier, pavement or a kerb, the purpose of the 'thing' can be so strong that its colour is almost invisible. Experienced in isolation, these colours can be repurposed, finding their intrinsic value. What is thought as utilitarian or ugly can take on a beauty all its own. This sums up Industrial Facility’s 10-colour palette London: a ‘resultant’ beauty (beauty that is not created but found) reveals something that was once unseen.
