During 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, Blēo presented Whitescale — a curated collection of 14 nuanced whites developed by John Pawson. The project was part of an ongoing collaboration between Dinesen, John Pawson, and Blēo.

Hosted in the serene atmosphere of the iconic Dinesen Apartment by John Pawson, the exhibition offered an intimate encounter with his lifelong exploration of minimalism and his belief that white is never just white, but a spectrum shaped by light, texture, and materiality.

Visitors experienced how the colours, inspired by mineral and vegetal references, unfolded across architectural spaces crafted from Dinesen’s calm, tactile Douglas fir. Together, Blēo’s colours and Dinesen’s materials created an environment for quiet reflection and a deeper understanding of proportion, light, and presence.

In the Dinesen Apartment by John Pawson, this philosophy comes to life. Here, visitors are invited into a quiet exploration of white, expressed through our carefully developed nuance JO PA 04 Cotton by John Pawson. Selected to cover the apartment’s walls, this tone reflects Pawson’s belief that white is never just white — it is a study in spectrum, materiality, and the subtle play of light.

This vision is further explored in the Whitescale palette by John Pawson for Blēo — a collection of 14 meticulously developed shades of white, inspired by mineral and vegetable references. The palette embodies Pawson’s lifelong pursuit of creating spaces where light, proportion, and material exist in perfect harmony.

As Pawson describes it:
“Using white as a material allows us to experience space aside from objects. An experience of light, mass, proportion — the most elemental aspects of a space and site.”

John Pawson has spent over four decades refining a design language rooted in clarity, simplicity, and quiet beauty. Often described as the master of minimalism, his work transcends the superficial absence of decoration; instead, it reveals the profound richness that can emerge from restraint.
